POLICE ARRESTS FORMER MINISTER IN MALAWI

Police in Lilongwe, Malawi have today 14 September, 2020 during morning hours arrested Honourable Henry Mussa and popularly known as Mtengo wa minga local language (meaning untouchable person).

Henry Mussa joined Malawi’s Politics around early 90s when Malawi voted to have multi-party democracy from one party system under the former Head of State Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda who served Malawi from 1963 to 1994.

Henry Mussa has been serving as a member of Parliament for one of the constituencies in the Chiradzulo District.

He was booted out in 2019 General elections till now was just serving as a National Executive Committee member for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Honourable Henry Mussa has been arrested by the police on the allegations that he stole 3 computers and gadgets meant for the Ministry.

“The National Spokesman of Malawi Police Mr James Kadadzera has confirmed the development.

Musa has been arrested to answer serveral charges including the one called ‘Theft by the Public Servant’, “said Kadadzera.

The offenses are suspected to have occurred during the time he was serving the Government as the Minister of Information between 2014 to 2017.

The said items which are are suspected to have been stolen by the honourable Minister were a donation from one of the government department; The Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA).

Currently Mussa is yet to be charged with the said offense.

Police says he will appear before Court soon to answer the charges he committed.

Mr Mussa is the third Political figure to be arrested by police since Malawi changed the government on 23 June, 2020.

The other notable politicians already arrested are Honourable Ken Ndaga who is answering offense of Arson where three people died in the torched house in the UTM Office in the city of Lilongwe, Malawi.

The other one is the Private Body Guard to the former President Peter Mutharika, Mr Norman Chisale who has been arrested for five times within a period of 7 weeks.

Mr Norman Chisale is answering charges ranging from Murder to Theft currently denied bail and is on remand at Maula Prison in Lilongwe.

The President Dr Lazarus Chakwera promised to bring to book all the people suspected to have squandered or mis-used the government properties during his campaigning.

Currently Malawi National has witnessed several arrests under his leadership.

Most of the cases involve stealing government properties, abuse of Office, Money Laundering, Killings and more.

He also repeated the same thing during the time he was making his State of National Address (SONA) on Friday 11 September, 2020. He said that nobody during his time should be found stealing anything from the government and not even money.
