Professor Peter Mutharika was born in Thyolo District on 18July, 1940 who got his education and most of his life time spent working abroad as a Law Professor at Many Universities in United States of America ,India as well as in Africa.
Mutharika who is also a brother to Late Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika officially joined Malawi’s active politics in the year 2009 when he was voted as member of Parliament for a constituency which was for his brother Bingu.
Peter became fifth Malawian president in 2014 when he won General elections against rulling President Joyce Banda which were held on 21May, 2014 where Malawi was conducting it’s Tripertite elections.
Later Peter Mutharika lost elections to his rival Dr Lazarus M Chakwera of Main opposition party, Malawi Congress a party that was led previously by Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda who ruled Malawi from 1963 to 1994.
Professor Peter Mutharika is currently settled in the District of Mangochi where he built his matrimonial home.
Currently it is not yet clear whether he was continue doing politics or he will retire.
After he left office Many of his followers including his personal Body Guard Mr Norman Chisale. All these arrested are charged with various offenses including money Laundering and killings.
