The Opposition Political Party The Democratic Progressive Party through its current Leader Professor Peter Mutharika has called an emergency Indaba for all the National Executive Committee (NEC).
This comes in amidst wrangles that have covered all corners of the party.
Most of it’s members including Members of Parliament and Counselors joining one of the Tonse Alliance rulling Party Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Today Peter Mutharika also fired the Secretary General Madam Grezeder Jeffrey with immediate effect claiming that she has failed to hold her position.
In contrary Grezeder Jeffrey said that she will not resign from her position because she was elected democratically at the National Convention.
She also pointed out that Mutharika is trying to fire her because she is facilitating that the Party should call for immediate Convention where it will elect new Leaders in preparation for the 2025 General Elections.
On the other hand Campaign Director Dr Ben Phiri has also resigned from his position.
He stated that he is not capable of strategizing the party in order to rebuild and bouncing back comes 2025 General Elections hence paving way for others to lead.
Ben Phiri was personally appointed to that position by Peter Mutharika in 2018 not duly elected at Convention.

 The emergency meeting will be held at Peter Mutharika’s Private Residence in Mangochi District in Eastern region of Malawi.
